Sadly, this is not available on DVD
or even VHS.
Norbert has the part of an American Lieutenant Chuccle, in this three-part mini series from 1996. The character
Norbert plays in this feature is without any redeeming characteristic whatsoever. He plays the part very well, but
is not likable in the least. Norbert has played a lot of villains, and this one has a different twist to it, adding a
completely new dimension to many of the other things that are featured here. This guy is just a jerk -- plain and
simple. This character demonstrates just how very versatile Norbert is as an actor.
The story takes place in the fictional town of King Bruck during post-war Germany while the Americans were
conducting the denazification of the country. Another GI, a Private by the name of George, has befriended a
German family, especially their daughter Betty. George also plays clarinet in a band that performs at a local bar
that is frequented by the American servicemen. Betty is rather fond of George and has been seen keeping
company with him. This rankles an obnoxious and drunk Lt. Chuccle, who is flirting with her and trying to get her
to dance with him. She tries to ignore him, but he grabs her and forces her to dance with him.
George is visibly upset, but holds back from doing anything since Chuccle outranks him. Chuccle further humiliates
Betty by ripping her dress open as he grabs her, followed by pouring a Coke over her head, all the while taunting
George as he manhandles her. When Betty tries to escape, Chuccle grabs her again, this time taking her by her
waist and tossing her up under his arm. He parades her around the room, offering her up to any interested
serviceman. George can take it no more and comes to Betty's rescue. He slashes Chuccle's arm with a small knife
causing Chuccle to attack him, but at least Betty is free from his completely humiliating clutches.
The full synopsis is available here. I wrote the one for this site to specifically deal with Norbert's character,
but there is a lot more of the story available on this website. (Once on this site, scroll down to the features
from 1996, where there are five sections dealing with this mini series. The site is in German, but I always
find the Google translation tools very helpful.)
